Las Canoas/El Cielito

The Las Canoas / El Cielito neighborhood is located in the rolling foothills between Highway 192/Foothill Road and the Santa Ynez mountains. The neighborhood’s name refers to Las Canoas Road and El Cielito Road, which form a circular route within this residential area. In the vicinity of Las Canoas/El Cielito are Montecito to the east, Mission Canyon to the west, and the Riviera to the south.

The Las Canoas / El Cielito area is incredibly scenic and spacious, and the topography and dense natural growth of the mountains all around have naturally limited development. The neighborhood has a very private feel not just for being tucked away from other areas of Santa Barbara, but also for the roominess between neighboring properties. Also contributing to the wild beauty of Las Canoas/El Cielito is the fact that the neighborhood is almost entirely surrounded by parks. Parma Park, Rattlesnake Canyon Park, Skofield Park, and Sheffield Reservoir encircle the area, and the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden is just minutes away. The route along West Mountain Drive, El Cielito, and Gibraltar Road is a beloved and immensely challenging route for Santa Barbara’s many cycling enthusiasts—and famed as one of Lance Armstrong’s training rides.

Although Las Canoas/El Cielito may be one of the most secluded neighborhoods in Santa Barbara, its convenience to Foothill Road allows residents to reach the shopping and dining areas of either Santa Barbara or Montecito in just a 10 minute drive. The quiet serenity of these sunbathed foothills is very much like that of the Montecito foothills, and homes in the Las Canoas/El Cielito neighborhood offer a “scaled down” (in size, luxury finishes and price) option to Montecito’s luxury estates. Because most homes are over 2,000 square feet and offer larger parcel sizes, prices in this neighborhood typically range from $1 million to over $3 million, with most falling in the $1.2 to $1.7 million range
