Summerland California Information

With its beachside location and its casual demeanor, Summerland real estate puts you in the quintessential California beach town. As you exit the 101 and wind up the hillside, the steep residential roads give way to spectacular ocean views.

Summerland has attractions for all ages - the ocean and surfing opportunities bring in the young crowd and the antique shops lining Lillie Avenue satisfy longtime residents and vacationers. Summerland is easily marked in passing by the Big Yellow House sign visible from the 101 which, interestingly enough, was the old residence of the town's founder. Harry Williams founded Summerland in 1889 with a group of Spiritualists. Together, they attempted to communicate with deceased relatives and others in the spirit world.

The discovery of oil in the early 1900s brought a different crowd to Summerland, but the implementation of off-shore drilling finally gave the town back to the beach loving residents who now call Summerland home.
